Donabe (Hot Pot)
The donabe, or hot pot, is a staple in every Japanese family household. Traditionally, the Japanese use donabe to cook rice, soup or shabu-shabu. Therefore the hot pots are designed to withstand extreme heat and open flame. The donabe pot can be used to cook and serve any of your favourite soups and stews. We carry a wide range of donabe pots, with different styles and sizes to suit any household.
Our donabe pots are suitable for use with open flame (gas stove), in an oven or microwave. While there are options compatible with induction heating (IH), our company has decided not to stock these for a range of reasons. The IH donabe includes a stainless steel plate which sits inside the base of the donabe, which warps (bends) over time and then needs to be replaced. Further, the steel plate changes the flavour of the food compared to the original donabe earthenware pot. For those with IH stoves, we recommend investing in a portable gas stove to enjoy our donabe hot pots.
